In the time of chimpanzees I was a monkey

Ok, I admit it, I'm no good a twitter. I've just noticed that I was featured on the Girls with Glasses site in February, yey me!
Anyway, more importantly Beck released a new album! It's been my new morning music since it was available on npr and I'm loving it. It's also got me into listening to older Beck (minus Odelay, as I always put that cd on at work), which made me want to give Beck snaps for his courageous fashion efforts. So here's a collage I made of Beck, a Beckolage if you will (bad art joke). Look at all that Beck! A few of my highlights are the tassels, what looks like some kind of scout's outfit and the central photo where he's rocking the double knitwear! Much love Beck, we salute you, thanks for being a loser.

stylist's own

So last week The Witch Hunt and I released a new video (watch it below) that we filmed in The Holy Trinity Church in Leeds city centre. This blog post was originally supposed to go up last week but I held it back as the video uploader on blogger couldn't find this video. I thought it might appear after a while so left it, but it's still not there, boring, so click on the link below to watch it :)

I've also included the last video we did together as I never posted it on here (oops)
We won best music video at the Leeds music video awards for this video, enjoy!

Also the other day Ken (the model) and Sam (the make up artist) and I got together to take a few snaps! I did the styling and photos, clothes are all 'stylist's own' and mostly vintage. Like my photography facebook page to see more of my work.

The Liebster Award

So I've been nominated for the Liebster Award by Jone, big thanks :)
I was so happy to find this out as its a really great way of getting small, unknown, bloggers together. Every time someone is nominated for the award by another blogger they must answer 11 questions about themselves in a post, tagging a further 11 bloggers with less than 200 followers, so that they can do the same. This gives unknown bloggers a chance to get in touch with other bloggers of a similar level and for us all to find out a bit about each other.

First off, the questions...
1. What is your go to item in your wardrobe/closet?
I go in phases really, at the moment it has to be the bright pink fluffy jumper I got in the Topshop sale.
I've been trying to inject some colour into my winter wardrobe recently and this is the perfect solution.

2. What made you start blogging?
I wanted somewhere to show my style and photography work, I'd been reading a few well known blogs like Style Rookie for a while and thought why not! Admittedly I haven't blogged much in the last year (but I was finishing my degree) I'm trying to get back into the swing of things now and do regular posts as I'm also working on a new project that I'm desperate to share with you all, so keep your eyes open.

3. Which celeb (who doesn't blog) would you most love to see start a blog?
St Vincent (Annie Clark); I thought it would be cool to see her blog after I saw the video piece with her on the Vogue website, you should watch it here, I just love her style, the way she talks and she is really insightful.

4. Who is your favourite band or singer?
At the moment I'm really loving the new Warpaint album, and am very excited for the documentary by Chris Cunningham to be released (preview video below), I also want to say how much I love the cover he did for the album, I think it really captures the feel of the album and the band well.

5. What is your dream job?
My dream job would to be Jack White's in house photographer as she gets to photograph all the covers and all live shows, how good would that be! The job is currently held by Jo McCaughey, here's one of her cover photos of Jeff The Brotherhood

6. What is a trend that became big, that you just didn't get?
Defiantly trainer wedges, trainers are good because they are comfy, don't ruin that by making them heels, plus if I was going to wear heels (which is a rarity)  then I wouldn't want them to look like trainers, urgh, I just don't get it.

7. What is your most overrated beauty product?
This was the hardest question for me as I'm not a very big product person so I tend to stick with what I know, although I have been trying out coloured eyeshadows recently, go me, so I think I'm going to have to go with something thats not in my regular routine, lipstick. I love how it looks but I can't handle how it feels and the constant fear of getting it everywhere. If anyone has any tips for getting over this please comment below.

8. A beauty product you couldn't live without?
This is a little easier, I recently discovered Topshop's Brighten concealer and it quickly became on of my everyday products. It instantly lifts my eyes and brightens my whole face, great for early mornings and rushed make up application.

9. If you could be any celebrity for the day, who would you be?
I think I'd like to be someone who's infinitely creative, like Bjork, I think it'd be fun to be in her head for a day.

10. Favourite film and why?
I always find it hard to pick one favourite film as I like so many of them, but at the moment I'm quiet obsessed with 90s teen films, like clueless, they had such a big impact on the fashion of the time. Although of them all 10 things I hate about you is probably at the top, I love the characters, the clothes, the music, the feminism, and some of my favourite actors of the time.

11. If you could have one superhero power what would you chose?
I'd be able to take photographs with my eyes, think that would be super

Here are the 11 blogs I nominate:

4. kook.
6. pigeon

And finally my 11 questions (these are a mix of the ones I was asked and my own) :
1. What's your favourite things to wear?
2. Who is your favourite musician at the moment?
3. What is your favourite shop?
4. What is your favourite music video?
5. Do you have a style mantra or rule that you follow when putting an outfit together?
6. What do you like about blogging?
7. If you could have one item of clothing from anywhere in the world what would it be?
8. If you could meet one person you admire who would it be?
9. What is your dream job?
10. Who's style do you most admire?
11. Which celebrity (who doesn't already blog) would you love to see blog? and why?

outfit twins

So me and my friend Simon keep wearing matching outfits, and it happened again today. This time we were both wearing fluffy jumpers, mine was from the Topshop sale, paired with my new obsession, the flower crown I made and a vintage shinny sheer shirt.

I thought I'd also include a few photos from when this happened a few other times...

plaid trousers

sailor stripes

cartoon network meets flower queen

Jumping back into blogging with an outfit post... rocking my new flower crown which I made with plastic flowers from Leeds market sewed to ribbon, which matches my new purple eyebrows. Trying out wearing jumpers under t-shirts today (getting sick of not seeing my outfits for excessive winter layers) the jumper is from h&m and the Ed, Edd and Eddy top is from a Glass Onion kilo sale I went to last month in the Trinity Church in Leeds (I must remember to show you a jacket I got the same day) I paired these with classic black skinny jeans, black Doc Martens from the For Life range and pink socks, to match the pink in my crown. Been thinking about what to dye my hair next, suggestions welcome...

living at home is such a drag

This year was my last at university studying Human Geography, I finished with a 2:1, which I am really happy with, and got a first in my dissertation, which I am even happier with as I worked so hard and felt quiet passionately about the subject matter. (For those of you who avoided a brain picking from me in the past year or so, I wrote my dissertation on the Leeds music scene.) I am also very proud of my dissertation as my tutor emailed me the other day to tell me he is nominating it for an award from the Royal Geographical Society! What an honour.

Any who, finishing university has also meant I have had to move back in with my parents, which, I am pleased to report, is going well so far. Although saying this, the past few days of unpacking have made me miss my old room even more. Before I moved out I took a few photos of the best (no exaggeration) room I've ever had. So, take a peak into my world...
